I find it incredible that people; who would be strangers if not for this site, step up and help with no expectations of anything more than a thank you .
And the encouragement and helpful advice given is priceless.
I too have been at my wits end at times working on my 850 -
And then I take a break - ask for advice- get some online help - a text or two - and back at it
until I hit the next stumbling point - lather-rinse-repeat-
    AND THEN --!
BAM - the problem is resolved and I am a way better wrench hand than I was before having learned something new today

Good to hear of your success Carl. And now you know more about a few things.

Yes, The advice and the encouragement is great.

Some folks also did good at explaining things... I had to study some on my own, because I had no previous exposure to the subject at hand, and then I could understand the explanation better.
So now I understand better about secondary gears (previously I was confused between primary, secondary and final), and the u-joint, and the final drive.
Not that I ever want to see them again.

And, yes, some folks offered parts at a good-GSR-buddy price.
And the offer of doing the machining - that was super great.

And, yes, after the bike being down for 5-6 weeks, and then cold-rainy weather, yah, have gotten out 3 days in a row.
