A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Questions replacing clutch cable 1978 GS750

Had my clutch cable break on my 1978 GS750 while on a ride yesterday. I went to my local cycle salvage and got a Suzuki cable from an unknown bike possibly a GS550 or something smaller since the cable is slightly shorter but has the same ends on it. I figured this would work out fine since I am running clubman bars and the old cable that I had broke was a little on the long side. Got the new cable installed and with my adjustment screws maxed out I can't seem to get it tight enough. It seems that the protective cover on the cable is slightly shorter allowing for too much play on the ends where it is exposed. I think I tried every combination of adjustment and it seems to be moving the arm for the clutch but there is no snap in the hand lever and it just kind of flops around. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna just need to get the correct GS750 cable but that's going to take at least week. Anyone know of any tips or tricks or anything I could be missing? Perfect riding weather this weekend and I am missing out big time.

Set both adjusters (one at the lever and one going into the sprocket cover) as loose as possible. Then adjust the helix (I don't know why it's called that) beneath the small cover on the sprocket cover. The procedure and pics are in the FSM but you loosen the lock nut, unscrew the screw, then screw it back in til you feel resistance. Lock down the nut then adjust at the lever to add some play.

Do you have the link for the procedure? That was a little hard to follow.

I gotcha I think I'm back in business. Never would have suspected that stud to be an adjustment screw. Thank you very much for the help.

I may have spoke too soon. Not sure if related but my kickstart is no longer working. What did I do now?
