    1980 GS750L project, engine questions.

Hey guys im in the process of rebuilding the engine for my 1980 GS750L project. Doing it from the ground up, anyways i had a quick question and will sure will have more for this post but anyways i tried some searching but there is so much to go through to find an answer. Im readying to hot tank the case's. Question is how do i go about removing this bearing for the gear shafting cam thats in the lower case? Is it pressed in and is it better to just leave it in? Ive tried minimal attempts to remove it but dont want to force it or damage/ding any surfaces. Thank you in advance!

I'd use a proper bearing puller.

Edit: Nevermind, now that I had a closer look at the picture that seems a bit more involved.
Edit2: Though there are a myriad of adaptors available; coincidentally I have a bearing puller manufacturer's catalogue lying around somewhere, but I'm much too tired and too inexperienced to give a good answer. But I'm sure there's some kind of proper kit for that.

Nicky, I just did a full rebuild at the end of last year and left the shift drum bearing in the case. I did not have a hot tank so had to improvise. Just coat with oil as soon as you remove it and work it in. Haven't had any issues. Best of luck..

I appreciate that a lot! Thank you! Thats what i kinda figured. I could have sworn i read somewhere that it was pressed in and hard to get out but not sure if it was that exact bearing... but i will role with it and hot tank it in there. I dig the washer machine thing, ive actually never thought of that, seems like itd do a pretty decent job.

The worst that would happen would be replace the bearing which would likely be the same had I beat it out. Girlfriend wasn't happy when she opened the dishwasher BTW but it worked out Great. Don't forget that o-ring when you reassemble the crankcase halves.. That was my biggest concern...

True! I did happen to find a universal bearing puller set so if all else fails. But at the same time itd be nice to replace everything since im doing a full rebuild (and the fact its a 38 year old bike). But we'll see how froggy i get haha.
I hear that, my gf wasnt too happen to see me soaking parts in a large pot on the kitchen counter when she came home early....

Do you mean this O-ring? Ya i have everything bagged and tagged in ziplocks, nothing is getting missed (i hope!)
