    GS850 stator cover leak

    Just like the title reads...it's leaking, again. I do have a question about the rubber grommet that the stator wire goes through. Mine is chewed up a bit and I put a glob of silicone sealer to fill the hole. My leak is down low though.
    I just replaced the gasket to repair this leak and now its leaking again. I debated using sealant on gasket or not, I opted not to. I now will get some of the "right stuff" and seal this sucker up again.
    Hope this does the trick and how critical is that rubber grommet anyway?
    Anyone else run into this problem? I was very careful to clean the surfaces and prep well. All in all I was very happy with prep and thought for sure I had the leak solved.

    I'd avoid sealant...any chance your cover is warped and not seating nicely? Did you use a suzuki gasket? Do you have the bolts in right holes? On my 650 ,two bolts are longer and will bottom out before "clamping " cover.

      Like Tom said certain bolts go in certain holes; if you did not keep track of them when you removed it, it could be helping it to leak. Please just put a new gasket on without any sort of "help" and use the parts fiche to put the correct length bolts back in their right spots.

        Mine always leaked too. I put some sealant on it and it wasn't as bad, but I could never get it eliminated completely. Used a Suzuki gasket, and bolts all in the right places. The cover may have been warped but it was hard to tell. I just lived with it till I swapped the engine. Frustrating though.

          Guess I will refer to parts list for correct length of bolts. As far as orientation of bolts...put them right where they came out of, made a cardboard template to keep them organized as I was doing this. And it is a oem Suzuki gasket in there. I have logged close to 2k on it before a leak appeared.

            Mine will seep a little after a hard ride, usually when it's warm outside. It will leak right at the bottom middle screw, has a new gasket, bolt is the right length, so I just took some gasket sealer and applied some across the seam about two inches on each side of the bolt. Pretty much gone now.
