    Gearbox Cover Removal

Trying to get the gearbox cover off my '81 GS650G. Bolts out, gearshift off but the damn cover won't pop off. You would think this would be easy but it's not, so what am I missing?

Wiggle it a bit to make sure it comes off STRAIGHT.

The hole over the shifter arm is rather deep, so it is sensitive to being cocked sideways.

Hopefully someone did not use gasket sealer. It's not necessary, there is no oil behind the cover.

A few taps with a rubber mallet around the case may do the trick to loosen it up. Taps ... not bashes ...

My 550 has locating pins that were originally causing it to be stuck in place. As stated, light taps with the rubber mallet
