    1983 GS1100L Model D cylinder head replacement

I have a 1983 GS1100 shaft drive with the vin of JS1GU71L8D2100159 which I believe makes it a model D. It's got 8000 miles on the motor. Long story short my valve adjustment has turned into a cylinder head replacement after my over zealousness removing a few broken fasteners led to damage to several fins among other things.

    So several questions:

First is doing a gsxr swap worth it? How much more difficult is that vs dropping another gs1100 head on.

Second what do I need to watch out for in the process?

Third what part number do I need for base gaskets? Also is the oem fiber one still the best option or has a better one been developed by now.

    Thanks for all the help!

    A 16v head won't fit your engine.

    Use OEM gaskets and seals.

Composite gaskets work fine. MLS work fine also and are the latest version from Suzuki, using such a gasket requires a cleaner gasket surface though.

You can find part numbers using partzilla and then hit up ebay to see if you can save some money. This method often works with things like gaskets.

Be sure to change out valve stem seals and lap the valves while you are doing the clean up work.

    Good luck.

Update time: I went on an ebay spree today guns accessories and motorcycle parts. I got a 8 valve Gs1100 G head and valve cover off ebay for $100 plus shipping. I already had a valve cover but it was a package deal. The correct gasket part number for my bike is 11141-49410. Once everything comes in I'll finally be able to finish this 11 month valve adjustment project.
