    82 gs850gl clutch question

So I'm new to motorcycles, and dove in on a 1982 gs850gl someone started a bobber project on. Anywho I was chasing a rattle/knock while running. I pulled the clutch cover to check the hub nut, which was tight. But, the center hub ,with friction and steels removed, when in gear has almost 60 degrees of play. Is that normal? My automotive experience says no..

Make sure the stuff behind the hub basket is there and oriented correctly...i.e oil pump drive, spacers

Well, I was able to get home tonight with the right socket and remove the clutch basket. Everything looked good and parts were where they are supposed to be. So i guess my question changes to is the transmission input shaft suppose to have that much free rotation, when its in gear or do I need to be looking elsewhere?
