What did I do wrong?
Well the first thing was letting my back brake pads wear to nothing and dig deep grooves in my back rotor. Got a used one in better shape on fleabay. Then I learn how to take my rear wheel off via basecliffs instructions. Get it back on with newish rotor. Well the I realize I ordered a set of front pads instead of back ones....the right ones came yesterday so I figure easy job I don't even have to take the wheel off. I get the old worn pads off and can't seem to get the new ones in. Then I noticed the rotor is off center! Upon further inspection its rubbing ever so slightly. Any idea what I did wrong? Am I missing a spacer?1981 GS 850G

It's hard to tell but did you make sure the pistons were fully seated back into the calipers?Cowboy Up or Quit. - Run Free Lou and Rest in Peace

It's hard to tell but it looks as if you have the washer that should be on the outside of the frame between the frame and the castle nut, in between the wheel spacer and the brake caliper bracket. That appears to be what has moved the caliper into the rotor. look at the parts fiche and see if you have everything where it should be.
I believe number 13 is you offending part. https://www.babbittsonline.com/oempa...4f6/rear-wheel:cool:GSRick

Oh, yea u right..... after I posted this I went back and looked at the how to from Basscliff and yea I think that's what I did. I should have looked at the parts fiche. Now the last time I took the wheel off I dropped the exhaust, is this required? It seems really difficult or even impossible without taking off the exhaust.1981 GS 850G

If you remove one end of each shock, you can either lift the axle above the mufflers or lower it beneath them.
It also helps if you have the center stand on top of a 2x4 to give a little extra height at the rear.
