I used a cable tie to hold in clutch lever ( for about 2 months) while working on the bike when I finished went for a spin and cable snapped now after replacing the cable I'm finding it hard to select gears.The new cable needed adjustment at the lever in the middle and at the engine end to take up the slack any ideas what could be wrong.

When your cable snapped, your clutch pivot lever (the gizmo sticking out of crankcase) likely spun out out of correct position. There should be very little slack here before you feel clutch resistance- otherwise the hand lever won't have enough throw.1981 gs650L

There is plenty of resistance in the cable lever working good but just can't find gears.Don't think the gizmo spun out of position.1983 GS 650 gl
