    Bucket lifters

I have a 82 gs850g and I swapped cylinder heads. I cleaned all and am in the process of lapping the valves. I reassembled the valve, new guide seals etc, but can't get the bucket Back in. I don't want to force them back, I tried lubricating but the won't fit back in, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Maybe throw the buckets in the freezer for a while then try again.

The clearance is VERY small. If the bucket is the slightest bit off-axis, it will hang up.

      BE GENTLE.

All the above - plus it is possible for the valve spring or retainer to be installed off-center and stop the bucket going down the bore.
Usually, this is visible - and a tweak with a screwdriver will move it into position.
