Can chain guide
AGAIN-I have a 1982 gs850g, I am changing the cylinder head. The cam chain guide #2, part number 12791-45040 appears in the schematics in all gs850g's. On the new cylinder head there are no bolt holes in the center of the head, above the intake ports to attach this part. There appears to be two plugged hole which was not drilled through the head to connect the part in question. Now that said, is this part necessary?????Tags: None

The plugged holes would suggest not... did the other guides change to compensate? All OEM’s love to leave out a part, helps cost.
I don’t recall it on the 82 - 1100G I did last year but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t there... I didn’t replace the guides.
If I had to guess I’d say they found it wasn’t needed but you could likely still drill tap and fit for a belt and braces approach.1980 GS1000G - Sold

Yeah they end at 82 over here I think for that engine series. Maybe it’s one of the last or a dealer replacement head from later stock...1980 GS1000G - Sold
