I need help
Hey guys. I am in the middle of rebuilding a 77 gs750 and I had the motor apart. In the middle of all of this i was moving and while the parts sat, the cylinder walls rusted on me. I dont know what to do. I'm afraid that I ruined it. Can anyone help me with advice please. Anything would help. Thank you.Tags: None

Well, since you said "anything would help".. And since I'd suspect other stuff is rusted to add to your fun, maybe consider this 79 parts bike in Boston...has title . Not a bad drive and it's always nice to have surplus parts.

Run a bottle brush hone through the cylinders and then judge if there is any rust remaining. If there is, you need OS pistons or a new cylinder.Ed

I honed it out but there are a few rust stains. Is there any type of cleaner to get rid of those? I'll put pictures up as soon as I can.

Stains arent anything. What you dont want is scratches or grooves of any kind. If you take a sewing needle, or something with a bit of an edge, across the area ( lightly ) and you cant feel it snag your OK.

When you consider the number of sadly neglected and started up bikes (and cars) that must have had some measure of rust in the bores before they were got going again, that went on to run for many more thousands of miles...
Of course, if the corrosion was bad enough, that would make itself known too, but a light coating isn't anything to worry about - it's not a race engine.---- Dave
