stock gearing
can someone enlighten me on what the stock gearing is for a 1978 GS1000. and what would anyone recommend as possible changes for in town and back road twisties.

Factory gearing info available in the factory service manual, as available on Basscliff's website, or in the factory parts fishe such as on Partzilla. If you want more acceleration but don't mind more rpm on the highway your best bet is to increase the rear sprocket size by 3T or more. Realize that the rear wheel will have to move forward so check if you have room in the chain tensioner adjusters otherwise you will need a new chain to go with the new sprocket.Ed
