Gs550 clutch rod push piece position

Hi guys, I have an issue with being able to select neutral; from either 2nd or 1st gear when coming to a halt. I.E stopping at traffic lights.

The funny thing is when I've stopped I can then usually move the gear lever to neutral.

I have purchased a new genuine clutch cable and fitted it with correct adjustment. No difference.

So have pulled the clutch cover and clutch plates which all look ok. But I did notice when I had the pressure plate off that the Push Piece (looks like a top hat) was standing about 1/2" out from the end of the countershaft. I attempted to push it in further but no success there.

My question is this: Is this the normal position for the Push Piece to be in or is there something amiss.

Picture below of the Push Piece being extracted for reference.

The picture below shows the amount the Push Piece is standing out when fully pushed into the countershaft. Is this normal?

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

    Cheers Don
