Clutch Lever
Does anyone know why clutch lever would pull so hard on my GS1000? Cable is free and not binding and lever is free as well.Tags: None

Old / crimped cable or aftermarket clutch springs. What bike? what do you know of it's history? What are you comparing it against? Even good stock springs are stiffer than some modern bikes...1980 GS1000G - Sold

I usually install a new clutch cable when I rebuild bikes, the old ones are usually dry and stiff.
Also as mentioned above someone may have installed H/D springs thinking they are better, and that would make the lever action very firm.

I have a 1980 GS1000S Wes Cooley and comparing clutch pull to my 1975 Z1900, I'm thinking someone put stiffer springs in it and have ordered OEM stock springs and a OEM cable to hopefully fix this. Thanks for the info!

Some also mix & match, half & half (using the old worn springs & half aftermarket). That works too and is somewhere in between in pull strength too.
New OEM is usually enough to prevent slip if the clutch plates are in reasonable shape.1980 GS1000G - Sold
