cam chain tensioner rod pitting - fixable?

    1978 GS1000ec

tonight i started the rebuild of the cam chain tensioner and the end / ramp of the rod has this hole / dent in it, maybe 0.5 -1mm deep. see pic. I don't recall seeing this on the gs400 tensioner when i rebuilt that but that was couple of years ago so i'm not really sure

if it is an issue can i sand it out ....or best to fork out for a new one?
they are not available in Australia by the looks, so there will be a wait from Partzilla or similar &cost $57 AUD, (and ive just finished a full break down, dip, poke, clean and rebuild of the carbs so i was hoping to start it this weekend

    thanks in advance.

BWringer has a method of filing that down in his cam chain installation instructions on his site - http://www.bwringer.com/gs/camchaintens.html

Of course I don’t know how deep that really is by the looks so see what happens and be prepared to order a new one

I filed one that was not quite that deep, yours should be OK, too.

        Thanks gents
it's early Sunday morning here so I'm off to a hardware store on the 400 for some wet and dry (via a rather windy road )

Not sure you are going to get it with some wet and dry, regardless of grit.

I used a sharp, fine file, then use slow, steady strokes, checking the depth of the divot often.

          Happy riding.

Ha ha you are right Steve I'm just back from the ride to the furthest away hardware store with 120 grit and after 5 mins my arm is sore lol
there is progress but it's slow ... I'll get there eventually I think I'll just have to mix it up between repainting and baking callipers and master cylinders so my arm doesn't fall off
            cheers

here we go, didn't take that long after all maybe 30 mins not including breaks
-- started with 120 then once the pit was gone a few minutes of 240, 400, 800, and then 1200. (the end of my forefinger is sore but smooth at the tip ha ha ha )
