Clutch Cable Coarse Adjuster
Is this correct? Or do I have the lock nut on the wrong side of the engine/threaded fitting. Haven't found an image in any manual or on-line that show this. The way I have it (shown in pic), it seem to me, won't stop the bolt from turning in or out. I think the lock nut is maybe supposed to be on the same side as the bolt head. Who knows which way is correct? My clutch friction drive plates and springs are new OEM, as is the cable. Adjustment and function are perfect.

Looks wrong to me. Nut on the other side.
There is a picture in the service manual in the section on cable inspection.
The arrow identifying the nut goes clearly to the inboard.Last edited by Brendan W; 06-22-2020, 01:15 PM.97 R1100R

Found the pic in the manual, after looking for the 3rd time. Clear as mud. But, yeah, I definitely have it wrong.

3 for 3 & I make 4 for 4 so now we know what is correct. Now does anyone think there would be any difference in the function as long as the lock nut is there & tight???1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100

On some cables you could compensate with the adjuster in the middle of the cable on others that doesn't exist or wouldn't work.1980 GS1000G - Sold

I’ve been driving for the last 4 hours dwelling on this and this is where all that time has led my brain:
Tell me if I’m thinking about this the wrong way.
If left as is, assuming locknut is tight, the bolt can’t back out/the cable can’t get tighter. And that’s good. But it could turn in/the cable could become more slack. And that’s bad.
If I put the locknut on the inboard side, the bolt can’t turn in/cable can’t become more slack. And that’s good. But it could turn out/the cable could get tighter. And that’s bad.
Which is worse?
Makes me think there should be a locknut on both sides of the fixed thread. But the cable only comes with one.
Maybe I’m overthinking it and should just fix it, put the locknut on the inboard side and forget about it. This is what 4 hours in a car inside your own head can lead to.Last edited by Rich82GS750TZ; 06-22-2020, 08:43 PM.Rich

Yep, overthinking it. As long as the lock nut is tight, the adjuster will not screw itself either direction no matter which side it is on. If you ever needed to screw the adjuster inward enough that there were no threads on the outer side for the lock nut to screw on to, then the nut would have to be on the inside.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw.
