In recent years I've bought rear wheels that had silver and gold splines and have seen the wear that others speak of.
I bought a wheel with a black hub and it was worn. The splines were half-shot, not long to go before destruction.
This wheel came from a sidecar rig and it's quite possible the extra loading of dragging that around did the damage and if the owner only changed the car tyre on the back every 30,000 miles or so, it would explain the wear, as the splines wouldn't be seeing fresh grease every 10,000 miles like normal.
So, even the black hubs are not indestructible.---- Dave

While out on a long trip I had to change the FJR's tires. I went to Cycle Gear to get them mounted and grabbed this Red Line assembly lube. I was crunched for time and used it on the spline joint. Now back at home I'm considering pulling the wheel and cleaning it off since I have some M77 stuff here.
Has anyone used this stuff?
