Bottom Engine bolt near Oil Filter

Hope anyone can help with this one on what to do.
I have an 81 GS1100 E and the bike runs ok but it has this button right Bolt to the bottom right of the Oil Filter case that looks like some JB weld that was put around the bolt.
It was there before I bought the bike and want it cleaned up
Either a new bolt put in as it bothers me to know it's there.
Can this be done? Is it easy enough to take out the bolt .
Does it need to be Heli Coiled and a New bolt put it?
Doesnt leak right now . What should I do?
    I want it looking perfect.
Anyone have this same issue and how did they approach fixing it?
Thank you to all those that can help
Attached is a pic of what I'm talking about

That bolt taps into the oil galley. You are going to have to remove it and look at the bolt, sealing washer, and threads before determining what needs to be done to clean up the problem.

If it's not currently leaking, I'd leave it alone until the end of the riding season. Once you remove the bolt (after first draining the oil and removing the exhaust for clearance), depending on what's required to fix it, it could lay you up for a while. Looks like a winter project to me. I'd want it fixed too.

        Thanks for the reply guys.
So best I should wait till winter and see what's involved.
I just hope it's not stripped or the bolt is broken half way inside or something.
I guess I'll see once I try and take it out..Lol

          Totally agree with this.

You know there's damage under there that PO tried to fix. You won't know the damage until you undo his work. If it's holding now, enjoy the bike!

That piece could fail catastrophically dumping the crankcase oil.
            Fix it now.
            find an ebay replacement.

That's what I'm worried about too.
How about if the pressure causes failure as I'm riding it.
I dont notice any oil leak now but who knows.
Find another bottom end crankcase on ebay?
Isnt the engine one piece or it splits in two.
I wonder if I can just get the lower end part of the engine
Or find another 1100 engine to have as a spare just in case.
These engines are getting harder to find.

You don't need new crankcases. Worst case install some thread repair inserts.

If it is not leaking now just check it after every ride.
I would wait til the off-season. Riding season is short enough in our neck of the woods.

                    Thread repair inserts.
                    Okay..will check into that.
Hopefully it will be a painless procedure.
And yes the riding season is short..
Thanks again for your help guys.👍

                      Parts are available from Suzuki.
Shop online for OEM Crankcase parts that fit your 1981 Suzuki GS1100E, search all our OEM Parts or call at 386-740-2452

Hopefully it's just stripped, if so Helicoil or Timesert repair would be suitable.

If you have any more questions once you know more about what the issue is, just ask.

                      David.

BTW you have one of the acorn nuts missing from your oil filter cover in case you didn't know.

Hey Thank you for the Parts outlaw link.

By looking at the diagram its showing it's part #44 Oil drain bolt??
Is that correct..as I thought theres one underneath aswell.
So if that's the issue then just take that bolt out and see what it is put washer etc.. or worst case rethread it.
Also what size bolt would that be?
Just trying to find a replacement if needed.
                        Thank you guys in advance

Yes item number 44 for bolt and 45 for washer, (there are two of each, each side of the filter).

From the part number it looks like it's 14mm bolt, (maybe 13mm long ??) but not sure on the thread pitch.

The washers are probably a special type to seal and are intended to be single use usually.

I suggest buying OEM as they are not that expensive and would be the right bolt/washer made specifically for the job.

I've bought enough bikes that have had many fasteners replaced with non factory items and most are close but not right which have caused issues, usually too long and have bottomed out and stripped the threads, or damaged other parts through interference.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

                          David.
