    Clutch cable routing ?

    Guys my old clutch cable snapped a month ago GSX1100 E 1981... I replaced it with the new one but after 1000km it snapped again ( this is a daily driver ) the lever was a bit hard , harder then before , so I m thinking the routing was not correct... I got the Clymer gs book manual but there is not a clear picture of the routing of the cable .... now I got a new cable ... any tips please ? pics ? thank you for the help in advance

    Sorry for your troubles, and wish I could help (my 1100 is no longer in my apt, and I am no longer totally mobile). Sounds like you learned the hard way to route new cables next to old ones before removing old ones.

      1000 km is way too soon for a cable to fail.
      What kind of cable gave up - one with teflon coating inside or a cheaper steel on steel cable and if so did you grease it ?

      Where did the cable fail, i have seen cables eaten alive by small damage to the clutch lever or cable guide.

      These cables usually don't fail this quick even when mounted with sharp bends or being pinched somewhere.

      I suggest you check for a reason it failed before trying again.

        yes too soon as I thought , it failed at the lever , I was driving and suddenly the neutral was hard to find at the light stop , then at the next stop it snapped at the lever at the barrel ... my bad I did not grease it and was a bit hard to operate , this is the cable I have bought again , I hope it is a quality piece

          “FRAGILÉ”, must be Italian. Sorry, couldn’t resist. It’s a movie reference from A Christmas Story. Can you not get OEM Suzuki cables in Italy? Sorry I can’t read anything on the linked Amazon.it page.

            we installed the new cable , much smoother operation , I greased it well in the lever as well as the cable. It feels already softer than the previous even if it is identical as the one that snapped. I hope it will last longer thank you for the comments It made me look into stuff and we did a better install imho

              You probably need to replace the lever too -- it's likely that the hole in the lever has worn into an egg shape and is binding that "barrel" fitting at the end of the cable.

              It's generally best to replace clutch cables and levers as a set, especially when the cable snapped at the lever. Also, it's best to use OEM Suzuki levers and cables if they're available. They're MUCH MUCH MUCH higher quality than anything from the aftermarket, and they don't actually cost much more.
