That's cool. I loved my FZ1. Only put 55K on it, but it was a phenomenal machine. Cheers!

What's the plan? New rod & main bearings? Might want to fully disassemble and blow compressed air through the oil passages to make sure there's no residual metal/plastic bits hiding out in there. Also maybe disassemble and clean the oil pump to ensure no detritus is lurking there as well.

Gonna need at least one new/used rod too.

+1. Are there any torque to yield bolts on this motor? Those bolts would need to be replaced as well. My GSXR cylinder head bolts were like that - had to toss the old ones and buy a new set.

ew, on its way to a catastrophic failure, eh.

Good that you noticed the sound.

Crank and piston rod, along with bolts and bearings are on the way. Going to try and reuse the crank bearings as they are all in good shape, as well as the rod bearings in the other three cylinders. I'll check clearances with platigage first.

I had already rebuilt the oil/water pump after this happened when I noticed what looked like coolant in the oil.

Good idea about blowing air through.

Yes it did. And will will again. Crank is in and crank case halves back together. Bottom end is back together except for oil pan. Waiting on gaskets. Clutch is in and buttoned up. Making progress.

The crank and rod bearings are color coded for selective fitting. Do you have a factory manual for your bike and have you checked the codes?

I never remember seeing this problem on an old roller bearing crankshaft. Probably why I'm still liking them.

Indeed but it would not normally happen without inducing a problem as I did.
