    Has anyone put an 1150 into an 1100e?

    I fried my 1100e engine and bought an 1150 from Niclpnut. I have it in the bike, everything appears to have lined up right except the sprocket cover.

    To use the 1150 sprocket cover on the 82 1100e frame it looks like I will need to trim quite a bit off. If I use the 1100 sprocket cover I think the bolts line up but the shaft for the shifter protrudes farther out and looks like it will need to be shaved off maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch.

    If the best option is to grind down the shaft on the 1100 sprocket cover... I guess that is simpler, so then i would just have to find out how to make black paint stick to it.

    The front engine mounting brackets under the exhaust manifold are rubber mounted brackets on the 1150,
    slightly different than stock 1100 3-point non rubberised mounting brackets. They'll work, but the vibrations will be felt due to larger piston wrist pins?
    I had to shave down the backside of an 1150 countershaft cover to fit on a 83 1100S frame.

    Seems having to shorten the shift shaft would be more difficult, with the splines on the end of shaft & the bolt having to pass thru the half moon window between the splines.

    I believe the stock 1100 had a mono shift arm mounted directly to the shaft, where the 1150 had a rear set rod linkage adding to width.

      We used to put the 1135 engine into the 1074 Katanas quite a bit in the shop I worked in. From memory the only problem was the sprocket cover (it's been 20 years since I worked there). You could use either but had to trim them as you have noticed. The rubber mounts I think could transfer from the EF chassis to the E frame - not too sure on whether we did that or just used the non-rubber E mounts.

        The '82 and '83 11E have 'rear set' linkage.

          Thanks Carter,

          I had heard something about rubber mounts but had not investigated it yet. I used the 1100 mounts, but may keep that in mind for an upgrade.

            I had a machine shop friend graft the rubber bracket portion onto the stock 3-point mount.
            The vibrations were noticeably more pronounced without the rubber installed, as the 1150 is more buzzy than the 1100.

            Rob, I owned 80 1100 didn't know about the linkage on the later models, always thought the pegs were in the same place 80-83.

              Ive been researching and havent even found a picture of the rubber mounts to know how to make one. Is it just the two brackets in front?

                I think it's a four-inch difference.

                  Just got back from a 70 mile ride. Got soaked halfway thru, then it dried out.

                    Thank you for that, it is a lot different isnt it. If I could find a brcket off an 86, would it bolt right up to an 1100e frame?

                      I don't think so.

                      I'm guessing some used 1150 brackets are out there somewhere & the cost would be minimal.

                      I used to get Suzuki parts from Steve's Cycle in Tifton Georgia before the internet arrived.

                          Wow I was thinking this morning about calling to you to ask if you had them. Im glad you saw this thread Nic. I would like to get them and will give you a call in the next week or so to coordinate that.

                          I will hopefully get the valves set today and then should be getting a step closer to get this bike back on the road.

                            Thank you Nic. Would you happen to have the frame bracket for the oil cooler as well? If I have to make one I guess I better find a picture of how they did attach on the 1150

                              Did any of you that put an 1150 in an 1100 use the 1150 oil cooler? (should I start a new thread?)

                              If so, I would love to see a picture of how you mounted it and what kind of bracket you made to hold it.

                              I am assuming the lines should be positioned as in this picture. oilcooler lines.jpg

                              Also, I am missing some of the washers... are these available at Ace Hardware or do I need to order them?
