I'm new to the GS world after buying an '85 GS700e a couple of months ago with ~25k miles. Enjoying this bike very much but having a weird shifting problem I can't figure out.
When the bike warms up to about as hot as its going to run (after 15 minutes give or take), it regularly finds a false neutral shifting up between 3 and 4, and 4 and 5. And downshifting is constantly a challenge and it gets into false neutral frequently when hot. And then, at times, it will shift perfectly fine up and down....but more often than not it finds those false neutrals and I have to double-clutch or just keep kicking the shifter pretty hard to get it in gear.
When the bike is cold, it doesn't display any of this behavior.
I've replaced the clutch springs with OEM and that has helped, maybe a little, and I've adjusted the clutch cable per the service manual. I have changed the the oil, and put on a new chain. I've ridden it about 400 miles so I am getting more used to it but maybe I need to make changes to my shifting approach.
Prior to me digging deep into the transmission I thought I'd reach out, especially considering the temperature consideration.
All thoughts welcome.
