Mine does that but never gets too full.
I change the oil out every few thousand miles.
There is a thread here somewhere about splitting the case and replacing the seal.97 R1100R

Mine does the same. Case has to be split to replace the seal so for now I do frequent oil and gear oil changes. As for mine it seemed like around every 2k miles or so it would start to come out the breather hose.1982 GS1100glComment

I have stripped my engine and have never
seen anything like what is almost portrayed
here ?
My bike follows the normal 4st design with a
sump.......

It's not really a box. It's a separate compartment in some shaft drive machines where the drive makes a right angle to face the shaft.
iirc 650 shaft do not have it.
It lives just inside the place where the drive sprocket is on a chain drive machine.97 R1100R
