OP would be better off looking for a bigger bolt, find that pitch, and tap accordingly ?

Personally i would find a proper insert, much nicer repair imho.
I probable need to take the oil pan off if I want to put an insert? Ill watch the video you linked but just to be sure

Yes, drilling will create chips - you don't want that end up inside the engine.

Actually, it's real easy to do.
Put the gasket sheet on the workbench and place the oil pan on top.
Use something like a clamp to fixate it so the oil pan cannot move.

Now you can cut the outer shape of the new gasket and use a 5.5 or 6 mm drill
        through the oil pan holes.
For the inside just look at the old gasket, this is not critical to a mm.

thanks, ill try to get the pan off without taking the exhaust off but I think its the best option. I didn't want to spend a day on the job

I am not familiar with your model bike, but often taking shortcuts brings issues.
If it is possible to take the oil pan off while leaving the exhaust on, you have to work around the exhaust, especially removing old gasket from the engine will take much longer that way.
Taking the exhaust off should be a 10 min job.

Now if your exhaust studs are rusted solid you may have another issue but i'd rather take my time and solve that also than run into that issue later on.
Take the tank off and you can lay the bike on its side, much nicer scraping the old gasket off that way.

no danger to the engine if its on its side? my exhausts look good so maybe ill try removing one.

no danger. Just don't flip the bike more than horizontal otherwise oil from transmission or cardan may come out. Even at 45 degree angle work is much easier.
Watch or take off the battery if lead-acid with an overflow pipe.

I was surprised to see that the GS650G/L oil pan gasket is NLA. ( at Suzuki). I double checked at Partzilla, which seems to stay right up to date on availability. I had bought a couple of them late 2019. Evidently they still have the early '81 cam cover gasket, but the much more common later '81 and on cam cover gasket is also now NLA.

indeed. I wanted to check and maybe adjust my valves and just finding the gasket is nearly impossible, or massively overpriced.
