Windscreen Tint ?

The windsreen is new on my Rifle fairing, but it's clear. I stopped at one of those tint joints today to find out if I could get it tint filmed. They said no, it's plastic. WTF, auto safety glass is plastic coated so it doesn't shatter. So it didn't make sence to me, stuborn Polock I am. Has anyone attaempted it with any success? Let me know, or is there something else to use besides film? My windscreen is Lexan about 3/16" thick.

You could try Wally-world in their auto section. I know they sell the regular window tint for cars and also the removable kind.

I know there was a spray on tint for glass,no reason it should not stick to plastic.
If you find some spray it on the inside of the screen.
Let us know how you get on.

There is a spray-on tint used for car turn signals and brake lights.
My son used it on his camaro and looks good. DOT approved???

He bought it at GI Jo's, but I think any auto store would have it.

auto safety glass is plastic coated so it doesn't shatter.

Pretty sure that auto safety glass is just sandwiched plastic. The outer surfaces are glass and as such adhere the tint well.

Yes it is,(I'm a glazier)that's why a spray on may be better.
I can't see how you could put film on a screen with a double curve, single curve yes.

Thanks for clearing up my misconception on saftey glass. In my search, the spray tint I've found have been glass only. Here's the answer, Testors transparent black smoke spray paint. Testors, as in what model builders use to make tinted windows in their models. What do you think? I'll test it on some plexiglass I have out in the garage. $2.59 a rattle can.

Here is what my son used on his plastic tail lights:

VHT Nite Shades is a transparent black tail light lens coating for creating a custom European styling. When applied to tail lights, fog lights or turn indicators, VHT Nite Shades appears black until they are lit, then the natural red color appears. Any chance of spraying a scrap peice of plexiglass to test it? I tried some stuff that wouldn't go on flat. Orange pealed on me. It was a transparent black laquer. Now I have to wet sand it off. I'd have to order it if I can't find it locally. I have a transparent black enamel on order.

Chris...funny you should ask...after reading this post, I got
to thinking about my YZF...I was going to get a smoke tint
windscreen for it but then (because of this thread) I thought
to use the Nite-Shade tint. Sprayed it on this weekend and it
does'nt look to bad. I sprayed it on the inside and its not as
smooth as I would have liked. I also thought I would try something
a little different....I got a Yamaha star sticker and placed it just
below center of windscreen. Sprayed over the entire inside
of screen including the sticker. After dry (couple hours) I removed
the sticker, so now I have a smoke tint screen with a see-thru
Yamaha star. I'll try to post pic's in a few days.

EDIT*...Chris, I just looked at your bike and don't think this product
will work for you. I put about 3 light coats on and I could not see thru it :!
This is not a problem with the YZF because its just a small windscreen
thats used for wind-deflection and not seeing thru.

I have a can of the VHT comming in and my Testor's paint hasn't come in yet. I'm taller then the screen, so seeing through it isn't a concern. Put a couple coats of clear over the vht, see if that smooths it out some.

Well the Testor's spray enamel flunked. Acted the same as the laquer tint paint. Wet sand again, 200, 600, and 1000 grit, phoey. The VHT should be here tommorrow. If that doesn't work, the cheap Polak will order a tinted windscreen. As far as the film goes, applying it isn't a problem, it's made to adhere to glass not plastic.

OK. Got *@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$ed, tried some smoke film. Got *@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$ed again. Next day, the VHT Night Shades arrived. My last shot before handing Rifle $75+. First coat. holy crap, it did't morph into leapord skin, second coat, cool. I can still see the newsprint on the front side I used to mask it with. Black smoke. I then put 2 coats of Duplicolor clear enamel over it to protect it. It's a bit foggy because of having to wet sand the failures off 3 times, but looks good from the front side. I'm taller than shield, so it's good. I'll probably still order the new shield down the line for perfection, but me being stubborn and cheap, this will do for now. I'll post a pic later.
