    Headlight advice

So my 81 GS850G I bought last month is nearly ready to go. But, the headlight is just awful. I tried changing the bulb, but it looks like the problem is the 20+ year old lamp lens. So, what I'd really like is one of these clear lensed super bright jobs that make night riding a touch less dark. Anyone have suggestions on good lamps that fit in the factory housing?

have you tried the "superwhite" bulbs? they are replacments for the standard 1157 bulb that are supposed to be really bright. They run about $20.

the superwhite bulb would help, but if the lens is yellowed it wont help much. you should be able to find a replacement lens aftermarket or used no sweat.

just a note- the 1157 is a two filament brake/turn lamp. wont do ya any good in the headlamp lol.

I just picked up a brand new 7" headlamp lens for 16 dollars from the local dealer. had to order it from th KK book. its set up to take the H4 bulbs.

you can get any number of H4 bulbs, in super white or similar.

For the actual bulb, I and several others here highly recommend picking up a Sylvania Silverstar at Wal-Mart for about $19. The flood of beautiful, bright white light is worth every penny, and doesn't draw any more wattage than stock.

It also doesn't have that incredibly stupid and annoying pink/green/blue tint you find on most "Hyper White" or similar "HID look" bulbs.
