Different Handlegrips

Has anyone out there experimented with differenet handle grips. My dad fixed up a Harley and it has some very nice looking grips and switch setup. I have a set and am going to try to modify the electrics to work with them this winter, (providing the cables all line up properly.) I am also putting the handlebars off an 82 gs550L on my 82GS1100gL, they are slightly wider set and a little further foreward. I really did not like the set of the stock handlebars on the Suzuki.

If those switches are made for 1" diameter handlebars like most Harley's I don't think they'll fit your 7/8" Suzuki.

In that case I suppose I will have to look at making or finding a schim to increase the size on the handlebar to fit the gribs and swtiches. Shouldn't be too hard to find some 7/8" inner Diameter and a 1" outer diameter piping.
