Anybody Mod a GS750ES (or similar) with fork mounted bucket?

I have been toying with the idea of taking my 1983 GS750ES and removing the fairing and healight frame and mounting a fork mounted headlight. I like the more "naked" look. Anybody try this? Pics, suggestions? What headlight buckets would work? Early 80 Suzi's? How do you get the tab mounts onto the fork?

Any early 80's gs headlight should work 7" or 8". You can get new headlight assemblys on-line. You can get universal headlight brackets or ears to mount the headlight (bike barn ,on-line). I'm not familiar with the 83's wiring but alot of my wiring on my 82 goes behind the headlight in the bucket. Stock headlight ears also have holes for signals.

Mounts with signal mounts? and buckets suggestions

Thanks guys... Any suggestions on buckets?..affordable, but good quality...and enough room in the head to clean up the wiring that will be exposed without a fairing?
Also, do any buckets or ears (Tommasellis) come with signal mounts or holes....or could these be tapped to mount small signals on each side? Lastly, with some of the ears...like the Tommasellis, they can be mounted without any removals, right? What does it take to mount some of the other ones? Fork removal?
And of course we are talking 37mm, right?

The bucket assembly is $60 (I have one on my bike, and it's a very nice, well-made piece), and the H4 halogen headlamp (with the removable bulb) is $30. Drop in a Sylvania Silverstar bulb for another $20 at Wal*Mart, and you've got yourself plenty of gorgeous bright light.

The chrome bucket is much nicer than the black plastic piece found on most GS models (except the "L" variations), and there's more room for the wiring.

No point in dinking around with rusty old incomplete headlights on eBay.

I mounted my headlight with the front signals using the thred on the signal posts

Personally I think it doesn't look as good with the fork mounted headlight but it's all about what you think. There are plenty of people doing it though

I still like the Stock look myself. It holds it's own. 8)

dont like the windscreen much myself.. but.. other then that.. its about how I had my 750E when I first got it (had a Vetter Windjammer on it when I got it... talk about Yuck)
but DM this was not a 750E it was an ES... half fairing.. not quarter fairing like yours.. (and mine now)

But the most important part is does the owner like it.. if so.. Our opinions dont mean squat... 8)

I just cut some plates out of a couple of oval brackets I had laying around and mounted the headlight from an old KZ I had laying around to the factory "E" headlight ears.

Fabbed some brackets from flat stock to mount the cafe fairing to the original fairing mount tabs (part of the stock headlight bracket for the "E"), and this is what I got - everything was hidden behind the fairing, so it didn't matter what I used.



I've since mounted ES bodywork on this bike (see my avatar), but still have the cafe fairing in reserve for a chopped cafe project on the parts bike....
