Making sidecover for the GS1000
Has anyone tried making new sidecovers for their GS1000? I am missing the left side cover, and I am curious if anyone has found a way to make them- then I'll replace both. Just curious- there are many creative people out there...Tags: None

Why not just buy a new one? I know that Bikebandit still shows them available for my GS550, so I imagine they would have them for youe GS1000

I could if they still have them. On eBay they seem to be rather pricey. I'm a pretty handy guy, and I figured if someone had a method for making them from aluminum or something I'd be interested in checking it out. Just a thought...

I have thought about making fiberglass replica's but could not think of a simple way to make the studs on the back that go into the rubbers.

I am considering two options for my GS1000. Carbon fiber or aluminum. Neither will look like the stock covers because I don't like them. When I finally decide which I will do and make them, I will let you know. I'll be happy to share any designs I come up with.

make the studs out of aluminum then glass them into the mold.
if you build a frame out of aluminum it will be stronger. you can even have the bolting tab out of aluminum.Last edited by Guest; 01-29-2006, 02:01 PM.

I was browsing through the forum to see if anyone had attempted to make a cafe seat with sheet metal and I came across this link... it might be relevant to what you are planning to do.

And when they don't use bikebandit.com, or any of the others and then eBay. They are really quite readily available if you’re willing to hunt a bit and have patience.

I'm replacing mine with wire-mesh. I lost the left side on the highway and I may as well replace both with something cooler. Just as long as there aren't any electrical issues.

I needed engine cover gaskets for mine and was prepaired to pay $25 plus shipping on Ebay. I checked the dealer and both are $16 including tax! Let the buyer beware!
