    1100G to 1100GL ???

    Hi,
New to forum and new GS1100G owner, love both. Have not seen any GS1100GL in OZ, love the look, is turning a G into a GL just a matter of interchanging handlebars, tank and seat or is there structural differences eg. frame angle. I know this thread shows my lack of knowledge about the GS but i figure the longer i have the bike the more i will learn
    cheers

The frame & front forks are different. Even if you had the skills & money, it wouldn't be worth it.

It is also a little more than looks. The tank is smaller and the seat is also smaller.

If you bought a "G" you probably like to ride some distance, and do so in comfort.

You could certainly do the distance on a GL, but definitely not with the same comfort, and you would stop more frequently for fuel.

Another GSR member, Carmen, and I have switched rides a few times while on day-long trips. He liked his GL, and could ride for an hour or two quite nicely, but not without some complaint about the saddle. He quite openly said he liked the much greater comfort of my GK for longer trips.

I quite agree with him. I could not stay aboard the GL for the 8 to 12 hour non-stop trips that I have done on the GK.
