    Windjammer question

Hello. I've got my 1982 gs850G tuned up and now I'm going to mount my Windjammer II fairing. Here's my question for those who have done this: What do you do with the rat's nest of wiring in the headlamp bucket? It looks as if my mounting bracket puts the fairing slightly foward of where I've seen the fairing go on other bikes. I don't know if the early fairing (ca. 1973) matches up quite right with the bracket (had to drill some holes) so I've got a space of six inches or so to deal with. I've been thinking about leaving the bucket on and sealing the front or just wrapping up the wiring in a water proofed plastic bag.
Just wondering what some other people have done.
    Thanks, Vince Jesse

Before you mount that fairing....could you take some pics of the bracket and how it mounts. I have a fairing i'm trying to fit on mine using a 1100GK bracket...it needs a bit of tweeking to fit. I wish I could help you with the wiring...I haven't gotten that far.

      wiring

I put a vetter fairing on mine and I took a plastic zip tie and bundeled all the wiring together with a little bit of slack in the zip tie to allow movement withough shearing. I do not know if this is the best way but it worked and no shorts yet!

I just removed mine a few weeks back. Mine had all the wires zip tied together in a back plastic pouch w/ a zip tie on it also. Who ever did it did a great job with it.

the black bag dlancer is talking about is the one that comes with the vetter when you buy it.I have one and it ride just below thespeedo.I have pics but dont know if you can see it in them.I would get a leather pouch or something stronger cause it does rub on the fairing when you turn.If you do need pics let me know and Ill take some of mine for you.

I had a Windjammer on my 78 750. The wiring harness that comes with the Vetter fairing goes back out the hole in the rear of the headlight bucket and runs over to the plug on the fairing. There was a rubber cover that went over the bucket in place of the headlight and mounting ring.

The original Vetter install was, remove the bucket, leave the bucket ears on, the orignal install came with a black naugahide bag (seat like material) to stuff all the wiring in,with a draw string on it, then you take the bucket ears and push the ear tips together with the bag of wiring behind the ears, zip tie through the bucket ear bolt holes, then find a safe home for the bikes headlite and bucket and bolts where you will not lose it through the years, If you upgrade later you can restore the 850 back to stock and switch the fairing to the new bike.
