    gas tank mounts

I just ordered a new tank from a salvage shop up north. One my old tank, a pair of mounting flanges come out the back of the fuel tank and bolt down onto the frame.

While the new one looks cosmetically similar (it IS a GS tank...) the tank they sent has a single flange that comes out the bottom, with one large hole. Obviously it wont fit as is, but can anyone tell me how this flange holds the tank on (and maybe what model/year bike it came off of)?

I don't know how it holds it on, but it is for a pre-82.

My '79 1000 mounts @ the rear with a 2-piece rubber isolator in the big hole, and a bolt runs through the isolator from rear to front.

That describes the rear mounting of my tank perfectly. '81 850G.

Same as my 80 1000g as well.

Thanks. The story I later got was that in '82 they switched tank mounts over to the rear flanges. I couldn't seem to find another '82 or '83 tank, so I sent the new one back and cleaned up the one I've got.
