I messed up a couple of months ago while synching my carbs. I had a cyclone fan blowing on the engine from the front right quarter/side, so the engine stayed fairly cool, but the two pipes on the left side of the engine got REALLY hot. Turned the first 8-10" into the purple/straw color. I went to a local grocery store (nearest Wal-Mart is twelve miles away, welcome to the sticks) and picked up some stuff called, "BlueMagic Liquid Metal Polish". I had to scrub hard (actually took the pipes off, clamped them in a vice, and shined like a shoe-shine boy), but all the color went away. In fact, I did the other two pipes because they had the slight yellow color at the top from normal running, and after I polished away the purple on the first two, the normal ones looked really dull.
The stuff really works, but it takes some elbow grease. My pipes look like new.GS450E GS650E GS700ES GS1000E GS1000G GS1100G GS1100E
