    Blue/gold headers.. what to use

My V&H 4-1 on my 78 GS1000 is turning gold and blue in some spots. There are a few choices on what to use to remove it. I was wanting some input on what others had used and what works best.

I messed up a couple of months ago while synching my carbs. I had a cyclone fan blowing on the engine from the front right quarter/side, so the engine stayed fairly cool, but the two pipes on the left side of the engine got REALLY hot. Turned the first 8-10" into the purple/straw color. I went to a local grocery store (nearest Wal-Mart is twelve miles away, welcome to the sticks) and picked up some stuff called, "BlueMagic Liquid Metal Polish". I had to scrub hard (actually took the pipes off, clamped them in a vice, and shined like a shoe-shine boy), but all the color went away. In fact, I did the other two pipes because they had the slight yellow color at the top from normal running, and after I polished away the purple on the first two, the normal ones looked really dull.

The stuff really works, but it takes some elbow grease. My pipes look like new.

I looked around on the net at some reviews on the different products made for bluing pipes. The Blue Away got the worst reviews, the Blue Job got the best. I'm going to try and find some of the Blue Job stuff and give it a try.

I've never used it, but a couple friends have tried Blue Away and both complained about the product causing small pits in the pipes finish.
