    Rear turn signal light mod

My "L" model had turn signals that stuck out way too far for me so, I decided to do something about it. I removed the signals and took them apart. There is a plastic 'sleeve' that gives the arm a little bulk. I used my dremel to cut off about an inch of the narrow end and slid the inch-long piece back onto the arm. Dont throw away the other piece, we're not done yet.

On the bracket is a bushing that turnes the square hole round...remove it.

Push the signal through the square hole until it butts against the small, 1 inch piece from before. On the other side of the bracket, slide the remaining piece of 'sleeve', fat end out, onto the signal arm. Put a big flat washer, grounding wire, then nut on. Tighten, test, and you are done!

    On to the other side.

        Hold Everything!!!

After finishing the wiring, I noticed my rear tire was a little TOO close to the turn signal arms. Sure enough, there is only about one inch clearance with me sitting on the seat.

Anybody see an problems with this? That's right...bumps!

Oh well, back to the drawing board!

        Updates soon!

I am just planning on putting aftermarket turn signals on my "L" model. I don't want them to stick out more than two inches.

            aftermarket signals

I put Lockhart-Phillips brushed aluminum ones on mine.
Only about $15 a pair, too.
They come in rectangular or round, and they also have plain old black plastic ones, too.

              small turn singal

Try the turn singals off of a Buell. About 14 bucks new at the Harley dealer. They are also DOT approved. Put them on my 850G and really like the way they look. If you need some more info pm me and I will let you know what mods you need to do to make them work.

                    Lockhart-Phillips aluminum mini stalks.
Stripped the "brushed aluminum" and polished them.

And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Puts mine to shame. If I ever get past the 'just make it run' phase, then I can start to focus on chrome, plastics, and other kewlness. I like the turn signals and gauge cluster.

Your shortened signals look just fine to me.
I spent a lot of effort and money to get my bike to where it is. It was a labor of love and that made it easier.
Cleaning up an old bike isn't that hard. Keep tinkering with it and you'll get there too. Takes time and patience.

                            Harley Lights.

I know this is rather sacreligous but I actually put harley bullet lights on mine, Looks a hell of a lot nicer. I will post pics when I have the bike done. My wife is going with me to sturgis this year and has decided to do some fixing on my bike.

1.) Paint the tank and side covers.
                            2.) Put a windsheild on.
3.) Put a new set of 4to1 pipes on it.
4.) Having a custom backrest and luggage rack made (if anyone wants one I will let you know how much it cost me).
                            5.) New set of saddlebags.

                            I love my wife
