Assuming a silver engine, VHT Univ. Aluminum SP127 is a decent color match. Suzuki didn't paint the bottom crankcase half, but that doesn't mean you can't. The VHT isn't overly durable, but it's decent enough for most folk.Ed

Ive not had SP127 peel onnany bikes ive done and ive done many engines. Trick is to run engine at idle for about 10 minutes the first run keeping an eye out up around spark plugs on top of the head to see that it doesnt bubble. Shut bike off at first hint of of smoke and let it cook till engines cool. Do another heat cycle but add another 10 minutes or so... cool off. Now mount up and put a good 15 mies or so on it and let it cool. The idea is to cook it and progressively increase duration. This should bake it well and avoid blistering.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

Chuck, the VHT looks good, but any gasoline spills will turn it to mush. On my 750 I painted the engine covers and cured them in my oven. Then during install, the cover screws cracked the paint, taking off large chunks. And this, after using primer. All in all, it's as good as anything else in a rattle can, but it's not durable paint.Ed

we will have to agree to disagree. Ive not had those experiences once cooked. Yes if its raw paint gas will ruin it.MY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I have also painted many engines with VHT SP127, I've also used Cast Aluminum SP 735 which is very close to the OEM colour as well, as we couldn't buy VHT SP127 in Canada at the time, this engine below has the SP735.
This what you can expect with some good prep.
I've had a carb overflow on the paint and expected it to dissolve the paint but was pleasantly surprised to find out it did not affect it at all after curing the paint.
David.

I performed a test where I painted a chunk of aluminum with VHT black engine paint, cured the paint per the instructions on the can, then I did both a cross-hatch adhesion test, and a gasoline splash test. Regarding the adhesion test, chunks of paint pulled off between the cross-hatches. And the gasoline immediately remove the gloss off the paint. Maybe this won't show as drastically if used on a silver engine, but I can promise you, if your carbs are dripping or overflowing and gas dwells on your engine, it will soften and bubble up the paint unless the gas is removed.Ed
