    Powdercoating Bolts?

I just got my frame (and other parts) back from powdercoat and it all cam out looking amazing. We have decided to have the engine mounts powdercoated afterall. However, we're kind of at a loss in terms of the engine bolts...

Based on the amount of torque needed for the engine bolts, would the powdercoating on the bolt head be strong enough to withstand the pressure from the ratchet? Or would the powdercoating crack and chip away.

Thank you very much for your thoughts/opinions!

I had the engine mount bolts, footpeg bolts and several other bolts "blacked out" to hide them. I too, wondered if they'd withstand torquing. I asked Astro's if they would and they said "they should but you may see some scuffing on the bolt edges" and with several re-torqings, the chance of damage increases.
I have high quality/fitting sockets and that helps A LOT. Yes, there is some scuffing of the finish (bolt edges) but it's not much in the "worst" case. I torqued my engine bolts and since have re-torqued once. I've torqued my pegs a couple of times. I would have to think that the finish will show socket damage/possible cracking with more torquing later on. I'm happy with mine so far, though I expect things to happen. At that point, you can touch up with paint and a fine brush or toothpick if needed.
Just be careful as you can and use good fitting tools and you'll be OK though maybe not perfect, based on my experience.
And on the seventh day, after resting from all that he had done,God went for a ride on his GS!
Upon seeing that it was good, he went out again on his ZX14! But just a little bit faster!

Thanks Keith, I think it probably makes sense to do it then!

Astro's did a great job (one piece came out not so hot with a little bit of bubbling, but for the price it was fair enough) Came out to $350 total!

An interesting test would be to coat the bolt heads with a Line-X type product, like Duraliner, and see if resistance improved over powdercoat. The only problem would be the possibility that the thicker product would prevent proper fitting of a socket or wrench.

Still, if it worked I would expect it to hold up just as well as it does on a truck bed...

        Regards,
