    Saddlebags?

I think I have made up my mind that I hate saddlebags. Any ideas for alternatives?

    #2
This is what a duffle bag look like at 80+mph stuck bewteen the tire and swingarm on my Triumph.
It didn't quite jam to lock the rear wheel.
    Lotsa smoke
The second pick is the strap that thankfully did not wrap around the chain.
Note the sneaker heel is worn into also.

    Keep the bags...........

This was at the start of a 600+ mile weekend.......

www.motodirectusa.com has all kinds of cheap (yet supposedly quality) motorcycle luggage. Great site.

Found them somewhere on these forums a while back. I haven't purchased anything from them yet but I intend to. They came highly recommended by a few members here if I recall correctly. Besides they have a money back guarantee so if it does turn out to be crap, send it back.

I've got a $45 helmet (not from there) that I like OK. It's DOT approved, just like the Motodirectusa ones...

i have this great Tourmaster duffel that sits on the pillion, and has built-in bungees and hooks that snap right to the bar under my seat. it's easy to take on and off, and it's pretty stable especially if the load is bulky but not heavy. works perfect for a change of clothes, food, and a jacket liner. and it has a rain cover.

i got mine used, but it's so flexible that i think it's probally worth the $80 it costs new.

                  oh, here's the hyperlink:

Motorcycle touring means a lot of things these days and Tourmaster motorcycle gear handles it all. From adventure touring to cross-country riding or just commuting on your bike, Tourmaster has you covered.

that's even nicer (and cheaper) than the one that i have ...

Not sure I'd be happy if it didn't have Snell as well but each to their own... A lot of peops round here ride in shorts & t shirts with a "beanie" style helmet, they're DOT approved too.... can't be very stringent can it??!8-[

Well I've also heard some interesting theories from people who actually WON'T buy a helmet if it's Snell approved. Personally I'm happy with a DOT rating and a bit of common sense. ;-)

Ha ha - what's their issue with Snell? As I understood it seems somewhat similar to the motorsport accreditation in the UK, more about impacts & sharp objects & face protection etc....

Someone actually showed me a stripped helmet shell with snell the other day compared to one without, you could easily see where the shell was reinforced & a lot stronger.

I replied out of ignorance. I don't know what Snell is.

I don't know how much stuff you want to haul, but I just picked up this Nelson Rigg pro tail bag, so I wouldn't have to wear my backpack for carring odds and ends. It wasn't too expensive and is well made. I got it at a local dealer for what it would cost online.
