Shot the base coat on the tank....I'll clear coat everything as all at once when everthing is ready to bolt back together.

Everything looks great bhppy. What kind of primer and paint are you using? Are you using an epoxy primer?
Keep at it. I need inspiration...................

        Great Job!

Awesome job, bhppy! My seat pan is pretty rusty and hard to replace, and your step-by-step gives me a lot of hope if my pan is too far gone. I've always liked cafe style bikes, but I've been torn on restoring my GS750T or going cafe on it. Maybe I can do both. Thanks for the inspiration and good luck!

Believe it or not....I am using Duplicolor Lacquer....This is just a temporary paint job until I get my new paint gun. I will redo the paint with House of Color black base and clear.

Thanks Guster!....Fiberglass is really easy to work with and should only take a day or to to construct. If you want to keep your original seat pan...just apply some POR15 to it. Not only will it prevent your pan from rusting anymore...but it wil strengthen what you already have.....when it is dry, it almost looks like it was powdercoated.

I wish I had a 750 Turbo to restore! I have been looking around for one with no luck!....One of these days!....lol....I have too many projects as it is...lol.

Thanks for those shots man. So basically you make a flat panel in the shape of the piece you made before to mount your actual seat to?

Yes....I made an exact duplicate of the inside of my seat so that I have a pan to attach the foam and vinyl to..... here's a pic of just the pan with some extra dense foam that I got from an upholstery shop. I used a disc sander to shape the foam....if you look at the back of the seat....you will see that I slipped....lol....and slashed the foam on the back....but this won't matter....you won't even be able to tell it is there after I cover it.

I used 3M spray contact adhesive (you can get this at most hardware stores)

I will spray the top of the foam and the bottom of my vinyl....let it dry for a few minutes and stretch my vinyl over my seat pan.

Very nice. The sign of really good custom work is when it looks stock, like the bike was always that way. And yours does.

Looks like a Norton with a big engine and mag wheels.

                              Very well done.

                                Thanks!!

I wish I could find some wire wheels that are a direct bolt on with the same disc brake configuration. I think the KZ wheels will fit. I just don't want to lose the rear disc and the dual fronts.
