    1150 fairings on a 1100E ?

    Anybody try this before? Ive got a 83' 1100E and I couldnt resist buying a fairing, headlight and framework I found off of a 85' 1150. Its red and black (matches my bike) and in perfect condition and was just $125. How could I resist.

    I saw a guy with an 850G last Fall going down the road at a stop light that had retro'ed one on to his and it looked hot.

    Anyway any help tips would be appreciated. We'll see how it goes.

    Yes, it most definitely can be done. Send a PM to Doug at cragantler about his. A few others have done it too. I think he has a few threads going on about the process.

        The 83 is a easiest fairing swap I have ever done. Done a few on a KZ1000J I owned wayyyyyy back in the DAY.

        I am meaning to write and post possibly, if desire warrants, a step by step write-ups and photos on the progress. I have only ridden it once, with the fairing partially attached firmly.
        Jethro was on that ride. I now have the upper stem mount down so damn slick and have mounted the gauges onto the bracket of the fairing as on the 1150.
        Waiting for a few more parts and I am putting on 1150 bars. I got a set of high ones here and a set of the low ones are coming from Canada.

          Excellent, Glad to hear its pretty straight forward.
          Ive already got the bike lowered and raked so it should look pretty good.

          Yours certainly turned out nice. Does it ride different at hwy speeds?

          I'll have to get used to the bars turning but everything else staying still. I recently rode a freinds FJ1300 and the steering really weirded me out at first. Those are killer bikes by the way.

          I really like the look of the 1100E as Ive got it but Id also like to see if I like wind in the face vs. not so much. Do you have to make permenent changes anywere?

            Doug is probably studying, so I'll answer for him as I got a chance to ride the antlermobile after the first road test. And I'm a good judge as I have the same machine.

            The fairing works excellent on the bike. Not only does it really look like it fits the model, it DOES fit the model very well.

            The fairing is frame mounted, so it didn't affect the bike negatively at higher speeds at all. I didn't get it on the highway (avoid them like the plague) but did get a straight-a-way at decent speeds. It was very stable and solid. I'd say that it improved the ride quite a bit.

            As you said, the frame mounted fairing is weird to me too. My new FZ1 is the same. Only the bars and forks move, but once you get used to it, it's actually superior. Your mirrors are just where you want them at all times, the gauges are stationary and always a lightning quick glance away.

            From what I saw, none of the changes are anything that needs to be permenent. I think he had to fabricate a bracket or two that can easily be removed.

              Yeah I was studying.
              Was that my 3rd or 4th beer??8-[
              None of the modification are permanent.
              You pull the headlight bucket, headlight ears and turn signals off. The attachment of the brackets all mount up to pre-existing holes.
              I figure you could go from fairing to naked bike in about an hour and 1/2 once you got some practice.
              Maybe less.
              I am going with a replacement windshield from Gustaffson that has an additional 2 inch lip on the top. Should keep me quite comfy in all type of weather.

                I only picked up the top fairing piece and am cutting it down smaller to put on my project bike. I am waiting for the new windsheild to arrive before I make the final cuts. Once I do I could send you a pic but it will be in a few weeks/month. There are a thousand ways to cut it down and I have been taping it off and returning back to look at it time and time again to see if I like it. I have finally reached a point where I think it will suit my purpose but need to see it with the windsheild on first.

                  Pano, Id like to see that too. I thought about that also. kind of turning it into a cafe type fairing. Might not need the framework. Yeah, be sure to post the pics when you're done.
