    Do the parts fit?

I ride a GS 1100 LT. The bike has had a bad fuel tank since I bought the machine in 2002 from a fellow in Fresno Ca. There is total rust on the inside and a deep dent on the right side under the Suzuki emblem. I had been trying to find a place that I would be comfortable taking it to get fixed or a method that I could fix it myself with. no joy.

I went on Ebay looking for Suzuki fuel tanks and found one for a 750 LT. I went to Bikebandit.com and looked the OEM part #s for the 1100 and 750 tanks and they were the same. I bid and won the tank. New in the box and rust free.[-o<

I bought new seals for the gas gage and fuel valve and started installing parts. The gage bolted right up, but the bolt holes for the valve were 1/4" narrower than the original. Back to Ebay. found the valve needed, bid on it, won[-o< I installed it when it arrived, the only question was whether the valve would clear the carbs.:-D It fit perfectly. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w.../suzieq001.jpg I now have a reserve that I didn't have before, and an un-dented rust free tank. My total cost to include shipping, $150. Now I will be looking for new decals for the side covers and at least make them match the stripes on the tank.

Another mod that I did was to remove the old handle bars and replace them with a bar from an old Honda CX 500. My hands do not fall asleep as much anymore and the angle of the grips is just right.

As you can also see I have added a universal crash bars and universal tail rack with an old Bates trunk. My National Cycle wind screen I haven't been able to find the bar mounts to it since I pulled it off to work on the motor.

Great post, awesome seeing another GS1100LT. I have one, as does Chef.

That's a steal for a new tank!!! I've replaced the bars on mine as well (they're GL1100 Goldwing Replicas) but I have yet to try them out as I'm still hammering out some carb issues.

Which tail rack did you use and did it require any modifications?

The rack is an old universal one size fits sort of thing. I had to make 2 brackets to fit the turn supports in the rear. If I don't have it laying around herfe I go to a local salvage yard to find racks fairings and such.
