Wheelie
The frame is one off custom made in my garage. So are a lot of the other pieces. It's also good to have friends and family in the (choose one) auto body, machining, welding, auto repair, industrial machine repair business.

This is my 83gse that has a 96 srad tail section, 86 gsx1100 middle and upper fairings, and a front tire cover off a honda cbr. all i am in need of now is a upgraded set of rims... any insight on this task would be greatly appreciated, i can't find any information on what i need to do to upgrade my rims. I am assuming that i would need to stick to suzuki but i dont know what yars will work.
Nice bike. I may be wrong, but that fairing looks to be GS1150.

What year/model/size are the rims? I like those a lot better than the "stars" that are on my bike. And what swingarm did you use?
I have no idea what color you should paint it, because the flat black definitely fits the attitude of the bike!
Here's a few answers to your questions.
The red dot on top of the tailpiece is a light.
It is connected to the brake light so it lights up when the rear brake is applied. the rims were already on the bike when I bought it.
I think they're from an '83 Suzuki, not sure what model.
Also the swing arm was already installed on the bike when I bought it.
I honestly don't know the name of company/manufacturer of the
swing arm. Someone on this forum should know, I'm sure.
How's your bike coming along ? H

Well, I'm getting ****ed off at the PO more!
I understand some people's desire to run without blinkers. To each their own. But in my area, the "cage" drivers are absolutely blind and insane, so blinkers are a must. But not only did the PO remove the rear blinkers, he cut off the mounting tabs! Guess it gives me motivation for some "trick one-off fabricated part", but geez, give me a break! And now I have to clean up the rust on the areas he hacked the tabs off of and didn't paint.
I got the engine to spin, but I think the borrowed battery I was using was too small. Got the new battery charging right now. Still waiting to hear on some parts from a fellow member here, but right now I'm concentrating on getting the beast running and trying to keep my nephew from drooling on it. I made the mistake of letting him sit on it and feel the balance, etc., and now he's begging me to sell it to him. Tough luck, kid.
New rims are definitely on the list for my bike, I hate the factory "star" rims. It's already got a Vance & Hines 4-1 and pods, and I'm still debating on whether or not to cut down the factory plastic front fender or use the spiked chrome fender I made a while back. Might look better if I blacked out the fender and left the spikes chrome, we'll see. I just got a chrome round headlight for it, the factory square plastic one was missing and it was fugly anyway. Just wish I didn't have to remove the top triple tree to remove the factory brackets....
The engine had a really bad black paint job (original was "cast grey"), I'm going to redo the engine in black, maybe wrinkle finish. The engine side covers are painted Dupli-Color Brushed Aluminum, and I've got stainless allen bolts instead of the crappy factory philips screws all over the engine, including the new header bolts. Gone through a tube of anti-seize already...
If anyone decides to do the allen conversion to their bike, I highly recommend it and will give you the link to the Ebay seller I bought it from. It's the most complete kit I've ever seen, includes allens for the valve cover, starter cover and everything. Even the tach gear bolt and half moon cover screws! All for $35 in polished stainless, a heck of a lot cheaper than buying them individually, even if you can find them, especially the 70mm+ long ones for the front sprocket cover! The header bolts were not included, but they're 8mmx1.25 and I got all of them for $5 at a local bolt shop including washers.
I've decided that after I get it on the road, the whole bike is getting painted Grabber Green, I'm still toying with the idea of black rally stripes or graphics. The tank emblems are removed and that area will be filled in, there will be no badges or emblems when I'm done. I'd really like to fit something larger than a 130/80-18 in the back, but apparently that can't be done with the factory swingarm so I'll throw that tire on there and hopefully have a swingarm for it by the time it wears out. Monoshock would be nice, but I don't have a welder or the skill, so I'll have to get my friend to visit me from Colorado if I go that route. I'd also like to put an "aircraft style" fuel filler (smooth like the new gixxers) in the factory tank to clean it up a little more.
I'll post some pics after it gets a little further along....and running.....

Since some people have expressed interest in the bolt kit I used, here's the link to their store:
If they don't list a kit for your bike, email them and they'll put one up for you. I don't have any affiliation with this company, I've just used their bolt kit and was highly impressed with it. Most complete kit I've found, reasonable price, and great service. $35 for the kit for my GS750EX, individually through Gardner-Wescott would have been over $170 (I was bored one afternoon and had a calculator handy).
Like I said, the stainless header bolts are NOT included, but I found them locally at a bolt shop for $5, washers included. 8mm x 1.25, not sure about the length.
USE ANTI-SEIZE ON ANY STAINLESS BOLT GOING INTO ALUMINUM!!!!!!

Well.....
For starters, you could always take an otherwise nondescript "E"....
And then spend a couple of years scouring the internet to find maintenance and upgrade parts in order to build your own (pseudo)ES, then spend about 80 hours on a rattlecan "Hell, how hard can this be???" paintjob....
Only to have second gear go out on you within weeks of getting her back together....
She doesn't look near as purty sitting in my garage on a rear stand with no engine. Especially parked next to the VFR that I've been riding the wheels off of - you know, the bike I bought just to "hold me over" while I fixed Ol' Blue....
Meh. Here's a larger version of my sig. Geebus I need to get this thing back together.
(Just don't tell momma I've been buying more parts for her this whole time...)

Man, I have got to get a set of those rims on my bike! Those six-spokes look so much better than the "star" rims!
Guess I'd better get a starter clutch for it first.....
