The 1100 arm is wider which does allow a larger tire... I looked at them both tonight. Its difficult to measure because one is mounted on the bike.

so does this have to be 1100 to 1000 and 750 to 750 and 550 to 550 swap? or does the 1100 arm work on a 550? and for a wider radial tire would that require a larger rim, or could i just use a plug for the rim and ditch the tube?
thanks,

here is some info a chap in scandinavia sent me on this mod
" The wheel is from a GSX-R1100 -93. It was quite simple task to fit it to the std swingarm. The most complicated part was chain lining.
First you need suitable spacers. Either use some washers in addition to original spacers or make new spacers.
Then chain lining.
-I used GSX sprocket carrier. It's few millimeters narrower than GSX-R one.
-Then I mounted a GSX-R sprocket backwards on the carrier. This moves the sprocket closer to the center line since the sprocket is dished on the other side.
-With these mods 12 mm offset was needed for the front sprocket. I used a 10 mm sprocket and couple of washers.
Now there is maybe 1-2 mm clearance from the chain to to the frame tubes. Currently I have a 180 mm tire but the chain rubs on it's side. I shaved a little bit off from the tire solve this but when I change the tire I will get a 170 mm one. It should be possible to use a 180 mm tire but I guess that I should move the wheel few millimeters to the right to make enough space for it. I think that the wheel is now on the center line of the bike but it's hard to say for sure. Anyway, few millimeters to the left or the right shouldn't make any difference. But a 170 mm tire makes things a lot easier, 180 mm is on the edge, I think.
Oh, the brake is one issue too. In any case you need to make a new torque arm for the caliber. The GSX-R caliber hangs on the bottom side of the axle so if you are going to use it you need make a new mount for the torque arm. I used a caliber hanger from a GSX-F to mount the caliber on the top side and the I just made an arm to the original mount. ''
hope that clears things up a little more ...
the pic is the only helpful left hander on there
