    L to E conversion?

First off let me say that I dont hate the looks of my L. It's just that I want something that looks more like a GSXR's relative than a Harley's.

My question is this: Can I convert this bike to the E tank/tail/seat/side panels with some relative semblance of ease?

I've seen many guys on here with different tanks, etc, just trying to get an idea here.

Nope, different/wider frame. Wanted to convert my E to an L. Easier just to get an E. Almost nothing interchanges.

Too bad you're 1000 miles away, I'd trade you.

even if I could just do something with the tail, I'd be happy. That 80/81 750E tail does it for me.

I did it on my 79. It was originally an L. But tscc bikes might be different.

I am currently doing this to my 80 gs1100l 16v. For the gas tank if you choose to go with the 1980E model, you have to move the mounts foward. There are two holes on the side of the frame, close to where the forks mount. That is the exact position for the front mounts for this tank. The katana tank has the same front mounting points as the L model, but for both of these tanks a rear mount will need to be fabricated. Also the 82 tank should work on the stock mounts. As for the seat and tail piece, I think I will have to cut the seat and use the existing mounting points, and totally fabricate mounts for the 1980 model tail piece. Ofcourse, I know all of this because I tried it, and if you look at pictures of the frames side by side it is easy to see. The 1980 model 1100L 16v frame is the closer to matching the 1000E model than 1100 models. take note of this when you are ordering rear sets from rask. They would not let me return them. I'll post pictures when I finish the conversion.

This is kind of what I was thinking. There cant' be much difference between the actual structural part of the frame. I'm not afraid of a little welding to make this stuff work.

What I'm really after is the 750/1100 Tail section where the whole rear tip of it is the tail light, like on the current bike of the month. Also would be nice to get a seat that doesnt make me feel like I'm in an 80's budget porn flick.

I converted my GS550L to "my version" of an E.

See if this link will work. If not, just search for "SCUD" in Appearance Mods.

Simple - sell the L then buy an E.

or buy an E and save the L as a streetfighter project...actually I think I would just buy one of those marked down 2006 sv1000's.

                      That would be too easy.

If I could find an E in the same condition as my L and for what I paid, I'd be all over it.
