Again, Forward Controls

[82GS650GZ]

I recently aquired a project '82 GS650GZ. I will be building it for a buddy who is about 6'2". Forward controls would be nice. I have been combing over the forums here and saw alot of good ideas. I was just wondering if anyone had any more recent experience with fabricating or possibly adapting a set for a 650GZ?

Also, 4 into 2 exhaust or a 4 into 1? opinions?

The best advice I can give you on fabricating forward controls is use plexiglass for a pattern. There's someone here that did that for rearsets and it looks professional.

I bought a set last year and i'm happy with them. The only thing I would do is move them forward a little more. I attached some pics ..maybe someone can make a set based from them.

Where did you buy them? Are the mids still intact or do you loose hte mids?

I bought them on ebay. They are MC enterprises. They fit an 1100,1000,850 shaft drive. I don't know why they wouldn't fit a chain drive bike.

I have no idea what a fair price would be, but I am sure we can work it out if you are interested. I've asked Shirley if she has a camera; unfortunately I don't have any pics.

DIBS!!! I've been emailing MC Ent. all day tryin to find out what these parts are off of. They claim they didn't make anything like that to fit a GS. I even sent the pix to the guy I was talking to. How much do you want for them shipped to 77318?

From what little I can find out about these, I really believe they are Suzuki stock but a special package for the 82 GK - note the (odd Euro looking) Suzuki emblem on the floorboards and comfort shifter. Pardon the dirt on the floorboards, but the rubber and all are in really good shape. You can see where the rusty parts are, but I'll bet they'll clean up fairly well, just replace the crummy rusted screws. Pretty much anything that isn't obviously rusted is in good shape. The bar on the rear brake is ugly with surface rust but feels solid and might be able to be polished up or have a replacement fabricated.

Hope these pics help you figure out how they're mounted. I'll let you and Don work out the details and I'll pull and ship accordingly.

Well if you were to pull and ship I'd want everything. The mounts [that appear to be some sort of case gaurd too???] and the floorboards, as well as the linkage and pedals. I'm interested to know what you guys want for the lot. I can't afford much. Thats the main reason I haven't tried to fit a new set off a late model cruiser.

Heim joints and joint rods are easy to find. Honestly, I'd clean those up with a wire wheel and spray paint them black or silver until you saved up some money, then get new chrome or stainless ones. All you need are the inside and outside diameters and the length of the rod and you should be able to get replacements from most companies that sell forward control kits. They're considered "replacement" parts, although I have yet to meet anyone that has worn their forward controls out. And honestly, it doesn't cost a fortune to have small parts chromed if you wanted to go all out and bring them back to their former glory.

Personally, I can't stand floorboards and/or heel/toe shifters, but I love forward controls (being 6'3") and fabricating/restoring, plus I'm very much "to each his own." Just trying to help out.
