Loking for suggestions for colour change.

Looking for suggestions for colour change.

The GS is stock with the nasty Burgundy/Wine colour with black inserts on the tank and side panels, pinstriping and white lettering.

I don't like this colour and will change it over the winter. The question is what colour. I am partial to cobalt blue, silver, white and also black.

I have the XS done in polar white with medium blue chequerboard stripe from nose to tail.

For the GS, I'm floating back and forth between silver with blue and white accents or black with silver chequerboard stripe and white accents. I'm not a purist so a factory finish is not of interest. i'm also not into to airbrush skulls and the like. Plain and functional but good to look at. I have proper spray equipment my own mini booth and access to automotive finishes so can usually produce something half decent.

    Anybody offer any thoughts?

    Cheers,
    Spyug.

Paint it yellow, have reproduction decals make you a set of replacement decals identical to the current ones, only all black.

When I turned my red/white 700E into an ES, that is what I was planning on doing, until I found a NOS fairing and NOS gas tank on ebay both in the blue/white scheme. I decided to stay with the factory job because they were perfect.

I've been debating what color to paint mine for over a year now and, I still don't have a clue. But I know one thing, it won't be yellow. I really hate the color yellow.

You know you really cant go wrong with black...it goes with everything...its my favorite colour...

Aside from that my 76 CB750 was a sweet copper colour...i wish i new the model number on that paint. It was almost that 350Z copper but a little flashier

              Thanks for all the input.

I am not into the yellow, red or copper end of the spectrum. Blue is my favourite but I like the silvers. With this bike the engine, tranny and pipes are all black ( I painted the aluminum clutch cover) so I'm thinking I'll go gloss black with either white or silver running stripes or chequerboard stripes. I like the chequerboard stripe but it is labour intensive to lay out so I might just go with the plain stripe this time.

With the weather staying fairly decent, I'll still be riding when I can so the repaint will need to wait awhile.

I'll post pics when I get it sorted.

              Cheers all,
              Spyug.

Thanks for the info Wiz. I can get my local sign guy to do them but I prefer the paint look. Mind you after the last set which I ended up doing a couple of times because of paint bleed under the masking tape I may just go that route.

The nice thing about the sign guys now is that you can pretty much dream up any graphic and they can lay it down. The last time I was in there a guy was having a picture of his grandkids done to slap on the tourbox of of his Hardleyconcourseg-wingcapade.

The talk of chequerboard has given me an idea and I could get lettering done that way. On a black bike it may look interesting.

What I need to do is open a picture of the bike in a paint program and fiddle with the colours to see what I can come up with.

I'll see what I can dream up.

                  Cheers,

Spyug, since you like silver, have you ever considered the P-51 Mustang look? Silver with red/yellow checkerboards and an olive drab stripe or striping across the the tank and tail peice.

Thanks for all the input fellas.

I will be pulling the tank off this evening to prep it for a new liner using the Phenol Novolac epoxy from Caswell Plating which I ordered and should come in the next day or so. Once I have the liner done I am going to paint.

For now I am going with plain gloss black. I might do a plain stripe in silver or the chequerboard stripe as previously mentioned. The Jury is still out on that.

I prefer things plain so it might just stay black with no embellishment.

I figure riding is pretty much up for now as the temps are on the way down so I might as well jump in on the projects.

I'll post some picks when I get her done.

                          Cheers all,
                          Spyug.

Stripped my XS tank yesterday. Gonna shave the emblems and go matte black with a matte white stripe. $0.99 WalMart rattle cans!

                              Hey Spyug
Too bad we didn't get that ride in.. My bike is stored now
How are you getting the painting done? Is there someone in town that you use?

I'm thinking of repainting my tank again this winter... may be in the spring with metalic red and flat black.
