New life into an old fairing

Well, between computer crashes and work I found some time to work on my little Suzi 450. I guess it must have been all the computer time freed up that let me finish it while I was so busy.

Anyway I found an old windjammer and lowers setup on E-bay and went to painting and locating a new windshield and mounting hardware for it. I think it looks pretty good in the photos. Oh if you were wondering, the photo is a few days old and it does have it's headlight and side markers and turn signals installed now.

Hey that looks nice. I'm not usually a Windjammer fan, but I like your setup.

Agreed. I havent ever been a big fan either but thats a really nice job. It actually looks like it belongs on the bike. Most that ive seen look like they werent meant for the bike they are on. Very nice sir!

Hey, thst looks awesome. One of pur compatriots gave me a windjammer upper a couple weeks ago. Any idea of a fastening system for it? It didn't come with any mounting hardware, and I'm planning on putting it on my GS850. I just figured those with experience could steer me toward the light, and away from certain doom.

I am in the Army and currently stationed at Fort Sill, OK. I will try to get a photo this evening (with all lights mounted) if it is still light outside.

Thank you for all your comments. If anyone is interested It is a Windjammer III fairing and the lowers were made for a KZ1100 Kawasaki had permission from Vetter corp to make those lowers.

As far as a fastening system/mounting bracket I had to fabricate my own as well. I suggest going to www.craigvetter.com and looking up the advice he gives for some measurements for front and rear hieghts. I used 1x1 angle to bolt to the bottom sides of the fairing and to brace those to brackets together. I then used 3/8 rod in the front and rear of the bracket and 1" opened half pipe to secure to the front down tubes. When I take my photo tonight (if possible) I will try to get a close up of the mounting bracket for you.

Don't know if it would help but below is a mount for a GS750 maybe you could modify it to fit. I do know that they have brackets for 850's on ebay, I have seen them, but not that often.

Ok, I tried inserting an image but on my cpu it only shows a small box with a red X. Anyway these are supposed to be photo's with the lights mounted.

                          new uses---

You have a really good looking bike there! I have a couple of older bikes with fairings and I like the protection. (80 BMW R100RT and 94 BMWR1100RS) If I can find a setup like yours it's going onto the 82 GS1100EZ. I also love to ride in your area. Beautiful scenery!

When you are looking at your Photobucket page with the thumbnail pictures, do you see a line (with a link in it) near the picture that says "IMG Code" ? If not, go into your account options and enable it. When you see that option, click on the line, you will get a message that says "Copied". Now go back to your message, right-click where you want the picture and paste it. You will not see the picture until you preview your post. Be sure to hit the ENTER key before and after posting the link to the picture so that the board does not try to put text beside the picture. 8-[

Very nice. You don't see those lowers too often. I always envy a man who can work with his garage door open in November. Northern IL isn't so lucky at the moment.
