    Early '78 GS1000 tank info...

What is the story on the GS1000 tanks with inserts around the badge?
Did the smooth tank show up half way through the '78 production run?
Was the tank with the insert used on both the standard and "E" models?
Lastly, did the tailpiece with the insert follow basically the same timelines as the tanks?
Thanks in advance for any info.

Yes, 1978 year model only had the special tank and tail. (built in 1977)
Both the "E" and the "C" in 78 shared the same tank and tail.

The black ones had a white stripe, and were nicknamed "Skunk's".
Around here, everybody refers to the 1978's as Skunk's whether they're black or not

In 79, the GS1000E actually had the "E" on the side cover badges the 78's all had GS1000 DOHC on the side cover.
