The red line is where I'm planning on making the cut. I think I need to add some more were the spark plug wires are but will make that descision after I start forming.

I was hoping to post some more progress pics tonight but the only other thing I got done was gluing the foam blocks together. But hopefully by tomorrow I will beable to actually get it closer to looking like a tank.

I know this came up when someone posted that tank build from another forum. Tell us a little about how you plan to lay it up. Are you making a female mold or will you be disolving(sp?) the foam after you lay up over it? Inquiring minds want to know. I can't work on my stuff until I finish the bathroom remodel. It's killing me. Oh yeah lot's of pics. Maybe if we get enough composites projects we can start DIY archive. Good luck.

Here'sthat taml build from the other form.
Proving the old saying 'Ask and ye shall receive', Zoran saw the thread about my SV/MV project and the carbon tank I'd made. He also saw my reply to a question about how much it would cost for me to make a tank - to which I replied something like "I don't want to turn the hobby into a job and I...
I'm going to do it pretty similar to how he did it. The foam will get covered in fiberglass so I can make a strong plug that I can get nice and smooth. Then I will pull a mold of that. I had actually thought about just dissolving the foam away but if you do it that way it makes it hard to make another part if it ever becomes necessary,

I just sat on the couch and read that whole thread. It was just too interesting. I wish I had a garage...I'd be building stuff like that left and right...or at least attempting to build haha.

Well I didn't make to much progress to day but I did get to start shaping the foam.
The little extra I add under the tank will probally not hold any gas but will make the tank look a little better.

I've been using just a regular bread knife and it actually cuts real easy when it gets time to start sanding I will probally just do it by hand that way I have more control.
